Mohamed Emam

EARLY LIFE

Mohamed Emam was born on 16 September 1984 in Cairo, Egypt, to legendary actor Adel Emam (known as “El Zaeem”) and Hala El-Shalaqani. He is the younger brother of director Ramy Emam and has a sister, Sarah Emam. Growing up in a household deeply immersed in Egyptian cinema and theater, he was exposed to film sets from a very young age. He attended the Collège de la Sainte Famille (Jesuites / CSF), a prestigious French-language school in Cairo. He later studied theatre at the American University in Cairo (AUC), where he performed in university stage productions, including the role of Atawa in a play directed by Mahmoud El Lozy.

CAREER

Emam made his screen debut as a child at age six, appearing alongside his father in the 1990 film Hanafy El Abha (Hanafy the Wonderful / The Magnificent Hanafi). After university, his first significant adult role came in the television series Kanaria and Shorkah (Canaria and Co., 2003). His major breakthrough arrived in 2006 when director Marwan Hamed cast him as Taha El-Shazli in the critically acclaimed ensemble film The Yacoubian Building (Emaret Yacoubian), adapted from Alaa Al Aswany’s novel. He acted opposite his father and a star-studded cast including Nour El-Sherif and Hend Sabry. In 2008 he appeared in Hassan and Marcus (Hassan wa Morcos), directed by his brother Ramy Emam and co-starring Adel Emam and Omar Sharif. The film addressed Muslim-Christian relations in Egypt, and Mohamed received an award from the Alexandria International Film Festival for his dual-role performance. His first leading film role was in Al Beeh Romansy (The Romantic Bey, 2009). He went on to star in a string of commercially successful comedies and action films, including: Captain Egypt (2015) Hell in India (Gahim Fel Hend, 2016) Lailat Hana wa Suroor (Lelyt Hana w Sror, 2018) – one of the highest-grossing Arabic films of its period The Thief of Baghdad (Lus Baghdad, 2020) Their Uncle (Amhom, 2022) Abo Nasab (2023) Al Leib Maa Al Eyal (2024) On television he has been a consistent Ramadan presence, with notable series such as Ferqit Naji Attalah (Nagy Attallah’s Squad, 2012, alongside his father), Saheb Elsaada (2014), Hogan (2019 – one of the most popular Arab series that year), The Tiger (El-Nemr), Cobra (2024), and upcoming projects including El King and Saqr W Kanaria.

PERSONAL LIFE

Mohamed Emam married Nouran Talaat (a non-actress from outside the entertainment industry) in August 2018. The couple has two daughters: Khadija (born 2019) and Qismat (born 2020). He tends to keep his family life relatively private, similar to his father’s approach.

Despite the inevitable comparisons and pressure of being Adel Emam’s son (something he has openly acknowledged), Mohamed Emam has carved out his own successful career as a leading commercial star in Egyptian cinema and television, particularly in comedy and light action genres. He continues to balance film and high-profile television work and remains one of the most bankable younger actors of his generation in the Arab world.
