EARLY LIFE
Mercy Ima Macjoe was born on 20 June 1993 in Lagos, Nigeria, and raised there, though she hails from Eket in Akwa Ibom State. She is the sixth of eight children. Her father, a soldier from Eket, died when she was very young, leaving her mother to raise the family. Growing up involved financial hardships; she assisted her mother in a buying-and-selling business, including hawking oranges and other items on the streets to help support the household. She completed her primary and secondary education in Lagos. She has spoken of having trust issues from her upbringing but working through them. Her mother remains a major role model. Her father had wanted her to join the military (he even obtained forms for army training), but she pursued acting with her mother’s support.

Mercy Macjoe is a Nollywood actress, producer, and entrepreneur who began her professional career in 2011. Acting: Her debut was a lead role in Lonely Princess (alongside Mercy Johnson), obtained via a talent hunt/audition facilitated with her mother’s help. Early work included numerous Ghanaian productions (leading some to assume she was Ghanaian) and Nollywood titles such as Midnight Crew, Zenith of Love, Shame, Bread of Life, Girl Next Door, Flaws (as Berna), Magdalene, Jenna (tomboy role that earned strong reviews in 2018), Wedding Eve (as Roli, 2017), Obsessed, Forbidden Pleasure, Somewhere in Hell, Body of a Virgin, Moonwalker, Bonded by Fate, and others. A low-budget film Sugar Pot helped raise her profile. She has continued starring in releases including Last Day Married, Cold Dish, Bigger Fish, 30 and Single, Blind Marriage, Sharing London, The Love I Lost, and more. PERSONAL LIFE
Mercy Macjoe is single with no publicly confirmed long-term partner or children. She has stated that it is difficult for a successful actress to maintain serious relationships and prefers privacy in her personal affairs. She looks up to her mother and actresses such as Genevieve Nnaji. Faith and resilience from her early struggles feature in her public reflections.
