EARLY LIFE

Maria Chike Agueze was born on 3 May 1992 in Owerri, Imo State, Nigeria, to a Nigerian (Igbo) father, Benjamin Agueze (who passed away in 2013), and a white British mother (who resides in the UK). She is biracial but has consistently identified as a “complete Nigerian.” She has at least one sister. Her upbringing involved both Nigeria and the United Kingdom. She has described a hardworking early life, including working from a young age.

CAREER

Before fame, Maria built a varied professional background in the UK and UAE. She worked from around age 16 in administrative and service roles, including as a front-of-house representative at Grosvenor Casinos, administrative assistant at Goderough College, HR assistant at KBC Financial Services, and personal assistant roles. She later pursued her dream of travel by joining Emirates Airlines as cabin crew/air hostess for several years, based in Dubai, before transitioning into real estate as a realtor. She rose to national prominence as a housemate on Big Brother Naija Season 6 (“Shine Ya Eye”) in 2021 (entered around late July; evicted in week 5). Post-show, she leveraged her visibility into media, influencing, acting, and entrepreneurship. She appeared in Properties of the Gods (2026). She has served as a brand ambassador (e.g., for fintech company Raven), hosted/produced content including Healing with Maria and Mums Next Door, acted, and developed business ventures under MCB Entertainment. More recently, she has been involved in interior design and continues as a TV personality and public figure. PERSONAL LIFE

Maria is in a long-term relationship with businessman Kelvin Anene. The couple has two children: son Leonardo AmaraNna Anene (born 1 October 2023) and daughter Skylar’Rose (born 23 October 2024). She has shared family moments publicly, including pregnancy announcements, birth celebrations, and milestones. Their relationship attracted significant public attention and controversy after Big Brother Naija, including allegations (notably involving Cubana Chiefpriest and claims related to Kelvin’s prior marriage) that she was involved with a married man. Maria has publicly stated that she was unaware Kelvin was married when they started dating, that she did not destroy any marriage, and that she does not owe the public full explanations of her private life while affirming she would never intentionally interfere in someone’s marriage.
