Biography

EARLY LIFE

Hamilton Dhlamini was born on December 15, 1969, in Sebokeng, a township near Vanderbijlpark in Gauteng, South Africa. He grew up in a humble, working-class family during the apartheid era. As a young boy, he sold peanuts, sweets, and cigarettes to contribute to the household and pay for acting classes. He began his formal training in performing arts in 1984, taking acting classes with the esteemed South African actor and mentor Ken Gampu in Johannesburg.

CAREER

Hamilton Dhlamini began his acting career in theater in 1984. He has played prominent stage roles in productions like Mncedisi Shabangu’s Ten Bush (2008/9), William Kentridge and the Handspring Puppet Company’s Woyzeck in the Highveld (2009), the Market Theatre revival of Woza Albert! (2012), and Athol Fugard’s Nongogo (2013). In 2000, he founded his own production company, Ndlondlo Productions, through which he creates content across theater, television, and film, serving as a producer, writer, and director. On television, he is known for roles such as businessman Korea in the SABC1 sitcom Mzee wa Two Six (2005), Lucky in the SABC1 mini-series Izingane zoBaba (2008), Mojo Khumalo in the SABC2 sitcom Stokvel (Season 6, 2009), Mnqobi Simelane in the e.tv drama series Umlilo (2015–2018), Banzi Motaung in Mzansi Magic’s Isithembiso (2017–2019), Brigadier Hector Zwane in M-Net crime drama Reyka (2021), Bonga in Mzansi Magic’s DiepCity (2021–2023), Qotha in Blood Psalms (2022), Jobe in Shaka iLembe (2023), and King Banzi in e.tv telenovela Queendom (2024). His film credits include The King's Messenger (1990), Gums & Noses (2004), Simeon Bhengu in Faith Like Potatoes (2006), a traffic cop in Jozi (2010), Skhumbuzo in Otelo Burning (2011), a foreman in Nothing for Mahala (2013), and Sepoko in Five Fingers for Marseilles (2018).

PERSONAL LIFE

Hamilton Dhlamini has been married to Martha Dlamini, a nutritionist, since 1997. They met in the early 1990s in a lift in Hillbrow, Johannesburg. The couple has three children. He credits his wife's unwavering support as pivotal to his career success, noting her support during financially challenging early years. Dhlamini is also involved in philanthropy, having established the Hamilton Dhlamini Foundation to empower young people in rural areas, townships, and prisons through arts education and skills training in the entertainment industry.
