EARLY LIFE
Eric Enomamien Aghimien was born in Benin City, Edo State, Nigeria, as the fourth-born in a family of seven children. He displayed artistic talents from a young age, earning him the nickname 'little wonder' and creating comics and sculptures by age eight. His uncle, Imeuntinyan Osaghae, encouraged his artistic pursuits. He earned a National Diploma in Science Laboratory Technology from Auchi Polytechnic in 2005. In 2006, he moved to Lagos and began self-educating in graphic design and video editing in 2007. He created his first experimental short film, Hektor, in 2011. In 2014, he received a Federal Government scholarship to study at the Del-York Creative Academy Workshop and was selected for the Berlinale Talents program in 2015.
CAREER
After completing his diploma, Eric Aghimien moved to Lagos in 2006 to pursue a career in entertainment. He self-taught filmmaking skills through online resources and books and founded Hills Pictures. His debut feature film, 'A Mile from Home' (2013), received significant acclaim, winning numerous awards including the Achievement in Visual Effect at the 2014 Africa Movies Academy Awards. His second feature, 'Slow Country' (2017), won the Audience Choice Award at the 2016 Africa International Film Festival. More recently, he created the TV series 'Slum King' (2023). Aghimien also mentors emerging Nigerian filmmakers.
