How Things Should Be

Nike, once wealthy, now lives in poverty with her unemployed partner Tobi. She works as a maid for Charles and his abusive wife Ruth, who constantly accuses Nike of seducing Charles. Despite the tension, Nike stays for the income. Her personal life is a mess: Tobi is lazy and secretive. When Nike visits her dying stepmother, she forgives the woman who caused her family's tragic fire. Returning home, she catches Tobi with another woman and kicks him out. Soon after, Tobi dies in a hit-and-run. It turns out he was also cheating with her friend Bola. Then Nike’s shop is robbed, and she discovers she is pregnant with Charles’s child. Charles initially promises to leave Ruth for her, but later reveals he never loved her and only used her; he abandons her. Devastated and alone, Nike finds solace with a female friend who also was betrayed by Tobi. They share their pain and decide to support each other. The film ends with them sitting together, processing their shared betrayal by the men in their lives. This is the journey of a woman who loses everything but finds unexpected strength in friendship, in HOW THINGS SHOULD BE.
