After The Rain

In "After The Rain", Ebuka struggles with the death of his wife Osas. He lives with their daughter Osareme in a small room, often dreaming of happier times. He works as a cleaner for a rich woman named Bisola, who is rude and looks down on him. Ebuka is very angry at God for taking his wife. He shouts at a street preacher, saying God is wicked. Life gets harder when he has little money for food. He and Osareme share a small meal of rice and one egg, showing their poverty and love for each other. Bisola meets them again when her car has problems. She feels sorry for her past behavior and offers them a ride. Later, she brings groceries to their home. Ebuka is proud and refuses, but Bisola tells her own sad story. She lost her husband and child in a car accident. She understands his pain and invites him to a support group at her church. Ebuka says no because his faith is broken. A flashback shows why Ebuka is so angry. When Osas was pregnant, she had serious problems during childbirth. Ebuka prayed and fasted at church, begging God to save her. But Osas and the baby died anyway. This made him lose all belief in God. He stops Osareme from going to church. Osareme secretly goes to church with Bisola. When Ebuka finds out, he drags her home and gets very angry. But seeing he scared his daughter, he finally breaks down. He talks to Osareme about her mother, showing her a box with Osas's Bible, photos, and a ring. He tells stories about Osas and gives Osareme the ring. This helps him start to heal. Ebuka apologizes to Bisola. They become friends because they both lost loved ones. Bisola uses her contacts to help Ebuka get a job interview at an insurance company, which is better than cleaning. At the end, Ebuka gets the job. He, Osareme, and Bisola have dinner together, happy and hopeful. The movie ends with Ebuka finding peace and new love after the rain of his sorrow.
