Yomi Ogunmola

Abayomi "Yomi" Ogunmola (known to fans as "Mr. Movie") was a prominent Nigerian actor, film director, and screenwriter who significantly shaped the Yoruba home video industry during the 1990s and early 2000s. Born in 1963, he carried forward a rich artistic lineage as the son of the legendary Kola Ogunmola, a pioneer of Yoruba folk opera and traveling theater. He built a reputation for infusing deep cultural values, proverbs, and humour into his storytelling until his sudden death in July 2003 at the age of 40.

He passed away in July 2003 under controversial circumstances. His wife, Mrs. Oluwatoyin Ogunmola, later suggested his passing was unnatural. He was buried at the Atan Cemetery in Lagos following a lying-in-state ceremony at the National Arts Theatre.
