Biography
EARLY LIFE
Uzo Aduba was born in Boston, Massachusetts, to Igbo parents from Nigeria and grew up in Medfield, Massachusetts. She graduated from Medfield High School in 1999. She attended Boston University, where she studied classical voice and competed in track and field.
CAREER
Aduba began her acting career in theater, with early roles including a nomination for the Helen Hayes Award in 2003 and her Broadway debut in Coram Boy in 2007. She gained wide recognition for portraying Suzanne 'Crazy Eyes' Warren on Orange Is the New Black (2013–2019), earning multiple Emmys and SAG Awards. She starred as Shirley Chisholm in Mrs. America (2020), Dr. Brooke Taylor in In Treatment (2021), and Cordelia Cupp in The Residence (2025). Her film roles include American Pastoral (2016), Miss Virginia (2019), and voice work in Lightyear (2022).
PERSONAL LIFE
Aduba married filmmaker Robert Sweeting in 2020. The couple welcomed their first child, a daughter, in November 2023.
