Biography
Tooni Afolayan is a Nigerian actor best known for his breakout lead role as Ponmile in the critically acclaimed 2019 coming-of-age film Mokalik (Mechanic). Directed by his uncle, the award-winning filmmaker Kunle Afolayan, the movie marked Tooni's formal acting debut. He portrayed Ponmile, a 11-year-old boy from a middle-class suburb whose father sends him to a mechanical workshop for a day to learn a vocation and gain perspective on life. He belongs to the prominent Afolayan entertainment dynasty. He is the nephew of director Kunle Afolayan, and his father is Dr. Adesina Afolayan, a professor of philosophy at the University of Ibadan. In his debut project, he starred alongside prominent Nigerian figures like Afro-pop singer Simi and reality star Tobi Bakre, who also both made their feature film acting debuts in the movie.
