EARLY LIFE

Born in England, Tamunotonye Nneka Nkiruka Ibiyemi Garrick, known as Tonye, is the daughter of a diplomat father from Edo State, Nigeria, and a mother from Anambra State. She spent her early life in Nigeria, Paris, and the United States. She attended Vivian Fowler Memorial College and Queen's College, Lagos, before earning a bachelor's degree in International Business & Fashion Merchandising from Marymount University.

CAREER

Prior to her music career, Tonye Garrick worked as a business analyst for UBS Financial and Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu Limited. In 2013, she transitioned to music, releasing her debut single 'Were Niyen.' Her singles also include 'Criminal' (2014) and the popular 'Ari Belema' (2015), which earned her a nomination at the 2015 Nigeria Entertainment Awards. She cites Whitney Houston, Janet Jackson, Brandy, and Aaliyah as her musical influences. She was signed to Made Men Music Group in April 2016. Tonye Garrick plays the lead character, Ada Ike, in the film Unexpected Love which was released in 2023
