Biography
EARLY LIFE
Suo Chapele grew up in Warri, Nigeria, from the early '90s to early 2000s, as the 14th of 18 children. Her parents, Chief Oletu and Mrs Helen Nneka Chapele, encouraged sports and reading. She received formal education from Nana Primary School, DSC Model School 2, Airforce Secondary School, Our Ladies’ High School, Aladja Grammar School, University of Benin, and John Moore’s University. Her late mother was her first speaking coach, and she started giving speeches as a valedictorian class member from age 4. Her love for storytelling and public speaking led her to obtain degrees in English and Literature, Mass Communication, and Media.
CAREER
Suo Chapele is Africa’s 1st Female Pidgin Commentator for SuperSports and the first Urhobo woman in Udu Kingdom to be given the “Okugbe of Udu Kingdom” title in 100 years. She became a sports journalist/presenter in 2014, starting her career at Sports Radio Brila FM Lagos. Her Pidgin commentaries have been curated in a museum showcase in Berlin, Germany, alongside other commentary greats. She also acted in the movie “When Love Strikes”.
PERSONAL LIFE
Suo Chapele is a mother to a son. Her first paid gig was as a church drummer in Warri. She enjoys karaoke, particularly ballads and alternative rock. She once had an unusual encounter with armed robbers in Benin City, who tipped her with transport money after she made them laugh.
