EARLY LIFE
Sunny Neji’s active involvement in music began at an early age. As a boy he participated in cultural performances in his hometown Ishibori in Ogoja Local Government Area of Cross River State Nigeria.
CAREER
By 1987, living in Lagos, he ventured into recording, earning a reputation as a unique voice on radio jingles and TV commercials. 1991 brought the release of his debut album, ‘Captain’ on EMI. He joined Colours Band and performed as the lead singer for five years. In ’97 he released his sophomore set ‘Mr. Fantastik’, which won a number of awards. He released his third album, ‘Roforofo’ in October 2000 on GM Intercontinental label, consolidating his position as a contemporary highlife protagonist. In 2002, Sunny Neji contributed to Now Musik’s Touch of Genius: Tribute Album to the Legendary Sir, Victor Uwaifo project with his re-interpretation of the classic Joromi. He also released the single ‘Victim of Circumstance’ to support victims of the January 27 Ikeja bomb blast and organized a benefit concert. In 2003, he recorded the single ‘Wake up!’ to encourage Nigerians to vote in the general elections. His fourth full-length album ‘Unchained’, recorded in Ghana, was released on O’jez Music in 2003. The pre-release singles ‘Oruka’ and ‘Face me’ were successful, with ‘Oruka’ becoming an unofficial wedding song in Nigeria. His career milestones include being chosen as the icon of Obudu Cattle Ranch in Cross River State Nigeria, becoming a GLO Ambassador, attracting concert dates worldwide, and winning a KORA award for the Best West African Artiste in 2005. While he is first and foremost a musician, he has dabbled in acting over the years. He appeared in Locked (2019) and Infidelity (2000).

His versatility in singing and songwriting is remarkable, writing original materials since he discovered his inseparable chemistry with music.
