Biography
CAREER
Stephen Hendel is a co-conceiver and producer of the musical FELA!, which ran on Broadway and London's Royal National Theater. He has also produced Tony Award-nominated productions like Illinoise and Stereophonic. His other notable productions include the Tony Award-winning revival of Parade, Ain’t too Proud, Beetlejuice, and Mean Girls. Stephen served as executive producer for Alex Gibney's documentary Finding Fela and producer for Saul Williams’ Afrofuturistic Rwandan film, Neptune Frost (2021). He is a Founding Managing Director of Hartree Partners. He produced the play "Immediate Family" at the Goodman Theatre (2011-2012 Season). He has also appeared as 'Self - Guest' on Theater Talk (2010).
PERSONAL LIFE
Stephen Hendel is treasurer of the Eugene O’Neill Theater Center in Waterford, CT, where his wife, Ruth Hendel, is vice-chair. He serves on the boards of The New Group, The Culture Project, Bill T. Jones / Arnie Zane Dance Company, Afropop.org, Museum for African Art, and on the Board of Visitors of the Yale School of Music. He shares a wonderful family with Ruth Hendel.
