EARLY LIFE

Sophia Williams Chikere, born on September 23, 1983, in Lagos State, Nigeria, is a renowned Nollywood actress. Sophia Chikere was born into a devout Christian family originally from Imo State, southeastern Nigeria. Her father was a clergyman, and her mother, a schoolteacher, ensured that their four children were raised with strong moral values and discipline. Sophia’s upbringing emphasized education, family unity, and faith. Sophia completed her primary and secondary education in Lagos. She later pursued a degree in Mass Communication at Imo State University, graduating in 2005.

CAREER

Sophia Chikere began her Nollywood career in 2007, debuting in Tears of a Virgin. Her compelling performances earned her lead and supporting roles in movies such as My Sister’s Pain, Divided Hearts, and Soul on Fire. She was particularly celebrated for her ability to convey deep emotional range in dramatic roles. Sophia collaborated with notable Nollywood figures, including Liz Benson, Desmond Elliot, Patience Ozokwor, and Kenneth Okonkwo. In 2005, Sophia also appeared in international collaborations, such as Colours of Emotion and Now & Forever, alongside South Korean actors Choi Ji-woo and Yeong-hie Seo.

PERSONAL LIFE

On December 18, 2003, Sophia married prominent Nollywood director and producer Tchidi Chikere. The union was initially seen as a match made in heaven, producing three sons. However, by 2012, their marriage unraveled amidst allegations of infidelity. Sophia accused Tchidi of engaging in a romantic relationship with fellow actress Nuella Njubigbo while they were still married. The divorce was finalized in 2012. In 2016, Sophia began a relationship with Desmond Dozie, popularly known as Young Mula, a Nollywood filmmaker and music producer. The couple held a traditional marriage ceremony in 2016. On June 1, 2021, Sophia announced the birth of her fourth child, a daughter.
