Shalewa Ashafa

EARLY LIFE

Shalewa Ashafa was born on 12 July 1995 in Lagos, Nigeria, as the last (youngest) of five children. She hails from Ogun State (Ijebu-Ode) and is of Yoruba ethnicity. Due to her mother’s work, the family moved frequently during her childhood. She obtained her primary school certificate from Christ the Cornerstone Nursery and Primary School, GRA Ikeja, Lagos. For secondary education she attended multiple schools (including in Lagos, Benin, and Osun State) and graduated from Iloko Model College in Osun State. She later earned a degree in Advertising from the University of Lagos. Her interest in acting began around age 7, inspired by a relative who directed stage plays. She participated in drama clubs at church and school and performed in her first stage play at a young age.

CAREER

Shalewa Ashafa is a Nollywood actress, scriptwriter, copywriter, and TV personality known for versatile roles in film and television. She began performing young through stage and school/church drama. Her first notable stage role was in Pound of Flesh (addressing female child circumcision), and her early television appearance included Tinsel (as Victoria). She gained wider recognition for her role as Elakeche in the historical drama series Ajoche. Her feature film work includes: Evol (2017) as Tundun The Razz Guy (2021) as Eve (notable big-screen role) There is Something Wrong with the Bamideles (2022) as Osas Bamidele The Blood Covenant (2022) as Ronke The One for Sarah (2022) as Vera Hell Ride More recent credits such as Pink Butterfly (2024) and Colour Me True (2025) as Sylvia Philips She has described talent as her primary selling point and noted that securing major roles can sometimes depend on connections in the industry. Shalewa Ashafa is single and not married. She has publicly debunked marriage rumors that arose from a playful Instagram wedding photoshoot prank during the COVID-19 lockdown with colleague Udoka Oyeka. She has spoken of a fun childhood as the much-younger last child (significant age gap with her immediate elder sibling) and values family and close friends.
