Rykardo Agbor

EARLY LIFE

Rykardo Agbor was born on 4 February 1973 in Lagos, Nigeria. He grew up in a family of four children as the only son, with three sisters. He has described his background as humble and noted that he is the only member of his family to pursue a career in the arts. He attended Stadium High School in Surulere, Lagos. As a child he was passionate about football and played well, even earning money from matches in his youth, but his parents discouraged it as a career. He also developed an early love for the screen and movies. He later studied Communication and Language Arts at the University of Ibadan. His parents initially opposed his desire to become an actor, viewing it as unstable, but he eventually secured their support. Before acting, he worked as a model, beginning around 1988 with advertisements and runway work.

CAREER

Agbor began his professional acting career in the early 1990s. His breakthrough came with a role in Visa to Hell, produced by Fidelis Duker, after a friend (Leo Marenini) took him to an audition while they were still modelling. He has since appeared in both English and Yoruba productions, becoming one of the actors who successfully crossed into the Yoruba film sector despite not being Yoruba by origin. He learned to speak Yoruba fluently while growing up and playing football in Lagos. He has featured in dozens to over 100 films across more than three decades. Notable titles include: Visa to Hell (breakthrough) Toko Taya (one of his early major Yoruba films) Jénífà (as Banji) Gold Statue (as Capone) The Novelist Desecration / Desecrated Too The Antique King of Shitta Strong Men at Work Badcop Coming to Nigeria And many others in both languages He has also produced films (including My Way 1 & 2) and occasionally directs. He is known for message-driven roles and versatility.

PERSONAL LIFE

Agbor is married and has consistently spoken of his strong commitment to his wife, whom he met through a friend while she was still in school. He has publicly stated that he has never cheated on her despite long years of marriage. The couple waited 18 years after marriage before welcoming twins (a boy and a girl). In interviews he has said he specifically prayed for twins and remained faithful and patient throughout the long period of childlessness. The twins were approximately 14 years old as of mid-2026. He has described the death of his mother as the toughest moment of his life; she passed away in his arms while he was transferring her from hospital care. Agbor resides in Surulere, Lagos, and values family privacy, keeping his wife and children largely out of the public eye. He is a Christian. In September 2026 he survived a serious car accident along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway in Ibadan (near the Cornerstone City area). He shared footage of the heavily damaged vehicle and expressed gratitude to God for sparing his life; colleagues publicly reacted with relief and prayers.

Rykardo Agbor is regarded as a resilient and consistent veteran of Nollywood who has maintained relevance across English and Yoruba cinema for over 30 years. He has spoken about the challenges of the industry in earlier decades, the importance of parental blessings, and the need to combat piracy. Outside acting he has been involved in brand influencing and other ventures. He continues to work actively and remains a familiar face to audiences across Nigeria and the wider African diaspora.
