Rediat Amare

Rediat Amare is an Ethiopian actor best known for his critically acclaimed breakout role in the 2015 drama film Lamb. Directed by Yared Zeleke, Lamb made history as the first Ethiopian film to be included in the Official Selection at the Cannes Film Festival (Un Certain Regard). Amare was selected out of over 7,000 auditionees to play the lead character, Ephraïm, a young, introverted boy dealing with the loss of his mother while attempting to protect his beloved sheep from being sacrificed. Despite playing a quiet and reserved character onscreen, Amare has noted in interviews that he is personally highly outgoing and mischievous. Following the film's success, Amare represented Ethiopian cinema on major international red carpets, including the Cannes Film Festival and the Ajyal Youth Film Festival.
