Biography

EARLY LIFE

Raoul John Njeng-Njeng, better known as Skales, was born on April 1, 1991, in Kaduna State, Nigeria, and is a native of Edo State. He was raised by his single mother, Martina Aiyewa, who supported the family through menial jobs and a cassette store, which sparked his interest in music. He began writing rap songs in Kaduna in 2000. He attended the University of Jos and later transferred to Lead City University, where he graduated with a degree in office management and technology in 2013.

CAREER

In 2008, Skales won the North Central region of the Zain Tru Search competition. He signed a record deal with Empire Mates Entertainment (E.M.E) in 2009 and released his debut single, 'Must Shine.' He was a key artist on E.M.E's compilation album 'Empire Mates State of Mind' (2012) and toured with the label. In 2014, he left E.M.E and founded his independent record label, OHK Music. His debut studio album, 'Man of the Year,' was released in 2015, featuring the hit single 'Shake Body.' His music primarily encompasses Afrobeats, hip-hop, and R&B. In 2024, Skales signed a global publishing deal with Sony Music Publishing. His 2014 hit single 'Shake Body' experienced a significant resurgence in 2025 due to viral TikTok videos, leading to a performance at FC Barcelona's Copa del Rey victory celebration and a collaboration with Adidas. He made his official Nollywood acting debut in the action thriller movie Hakeem: Seeking Justice, which premiered in Nigerian cinemas in August 2025.

PERSONAL LIFE

In December 2011, Skales was involved in a car accident on the Lekki-Epe Expressway but survived without life-threatening injuries. He announced his engagement to Precious Hassanity on Instagram in March 2021, and they had a traditional and white wedding in 2021. They welcomed a daughter in March 2023, but the marriage ended in separation by 2025, and he publicly shared images of a new partner in August 2025. His mother, Martina Aiyewa, passed away in 2022, and his seventh studio album, 'Martina's Son,' released in September 2025, is a tribute to her.
