Biography
EARLY LIFE
Papa Oyeyemi, born in 1992 in Lagos, is a multidisciplinary artist, designer, and cultural thinker. He was awarded the Most Creative Freshman in the Department of Home Science and Management in 2011 and the Comportment Officer Award at Mayflower in 2008/2009.
CAREER
Over the past 18 years, Papa Oyeyemi has reinvented himself within creative spheres, working on projects in fashion, art, interior decoration, activism, media, film, and music. He is the founder of the Lagos-based fashion brand Maxivive, established in 2007. Oyeyemi also co-founded Bias in African Fashion (BAF), serves as Editor for Star Magazine, and is the Founder and Curator of Bó Young Creatives (BóYC), an encyclopedia initiative documenting young Nigerian creatives. He is currently the Artistic Project Coordinator for the Amsterdam-based artist collective DARKMATTER. His work often explores identity, gender, and queer emancipation, blending West African textile traditions with a futuristic aesthetic. Maxivive has been featured in global media outlets such as CNN, GQ, and BBC.
