Biography
EARLY LIFE
Olabisi Ajala was born in Ghana in either 1929 or 1934 to a Nigerian polygamous family. His family later moved to Nigeria, where he attended Baptist Academy in Lagos and Ibadan Boys’ High School in Ibadan. In 1952, at the age of eighteen, he moved to the United States to study pre-medicine at the University of Chicago and later psychology at Roosevelt University.
CAREER
In 1952, Ajala undertook a cross-country bicycle trip from Chicago to Los Angeles, gaining media attention. He briefly worked as an actor, appearing in 'White Witch Doctor'. From 1957 to 1962, he embarked on a renowned world tour on a Vespa scooter, visiting numerous countries across Asia, Africa, and Oceania. During this period, he worked as a journalist, selling travel writings, and briefly as a radio broadcaster for Kol Yisrael and Radio Cairo. His book 'An African Abroad', an account of his travels, was published in 1963. After returning to Nigeria, he became a famous socialite, entertainment promoter, and publicist, working with artists like Sikiru Ayinde Barrister.
PERSONAL LIFE
Ajala had encounters with American immigration authorities and was deported to London at one point. He was married to Hermine Aileen and later to Joan Simons. In Nigeria, he married Alhaja Ṣadé and was reputed to have children with other women.
