Biography
EARLY LIFE
Okwechime Abdul was a student at the University of Lagos and lived in Fela's Kalakuta Republic during his first year. He started freelancing for Ophelia Magazine and then joined Sunday Times while still a student. He also learned music at King's College.
CAREER
Abdul Okwechime was a brilliant and award-winning journalist, known for his crime reporting. He worked for Sunday Times, The Guardian, and This Week, where he rose to become an assistant editor. He later transitioned into music promotion, founding Person to Person Ltd. He was instrumental in forming Femi Kuti's band, Positive Force, and collaborated with Alhaji Mohammed Dikko Yusuf to oppose Sani Abacha's regime. He produced Bigger Than Africa (2018) and Finding Fela (2014).
PERSONAL LIFE
Abdul Okwechime was a dear friend and worshipper at Fela Anikulapo's shrine, continuing his association with the Anikulapo Kuti family. He was described as full of life, exuberant, and joyous, prioritizing his art and contributing to Nigeria's democratic ideals.
