CAREER
Temitope Ogungbamila grew up in Bariga, an informal settlement in Lagos, Nigeria, where she experienced poverty and forced evictions firsthand. CAREER
Temitope Ogungbamila entered filmmaking unconventionally, motivated by a passion for social impact storytelling rather than formal training. In 2019, she participated in a Miraisha DSLR workshop, where she received a camera and began documenting her community, finding the hands-on approach empowering. She further honed her skills through a 2023 Miraisha training focused on capturing genuine human experiences. She is a key member of the Agbajowo Collective, where she works as a co-writer and co-director on projects emphasizing community involvement. Her notable work includes co-writing and co-directing the feature film The Legend of the Vagabond Queen of Lagos (also known as a project reflecting her lived experiences), which tells the story of a woman in a Lagos informal settlement who discovers corrupt blood money amid threats of demolition. She also works professionally in Nollywood as a focus puller (First Assistant Camera), noted as one of the few women in that technical role in Nigeria.
