EARLY LIFE

Unku SP was born on June 30, 1990, in Onitsha, a vibrant commercial city in Anambra State, Nigeria. He hails from Awka-Etiti, Anambra State, Nigeria. He grew up in a culturally rich environment, which significantly influenced his comedy style and creative expression. His parents, Mr. and Mrs. Obinwanne, were educators who emphasized the importance of education and cultural pride. Unku SP began his education at St. Anthony of Padua High School in Nkpor, Anambra State, where he developed a knack for making people laugh during school events and social gatherings. After completing his secondary education, he pursued a degree in Geography and Meteorology at Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, graduating in 2015. His educational journey continued with the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Minna, Niger State, from 2016 to 2017.

CAREER

Unku SP began his journey in comedy as a stand-up comedian, performing at local events, weddings, community gatherings, and church programs across southeastern Nigeria. His distinctive style—marked by the clever blending of Igbo humor, sharp observations, and relatable everyday scenarios—quickly caught the attention of audiences. Whether joking about family life, village politics, or urban struggles, Unku SP had a talent for making people laugh while reflecting on shared cultural experiences. His charisma on stage, combined with a natural ability to connect with diverse audiences, soon earned him a loyal local following. By 2018, recognizing the rise of digital platforms, Unku SP expanded beyond live performances and ventured into online content creation, a move that would significantly boost his reach and fame. Unku SP’s comedy skits, primarily shared across Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube, have become widely popular, particularly among Igbo-speaking audiences both in Nigeria and the diaspora. Nkem Owoh (Osuofia): Cited as one of his inspirations, Unku SP worked with the veteran actor on a cultural awareness campaign.

PERSONAL LIFE

Unku SP is married to Chy Ogochukwu, a talented makeup artist, content creator, and brand influencer. The couple tied the knot on October 10, 2020, in a private ceremony attended by close family and friends. They are blessed with a daughter, and Unku SP has often shared that his family provides him with immense inspiration for his comedy. Despite his growing fame, Unku SP is known for keeping his personal life private, focusing primarily on his career. In interviews, he has emphasized his preference for maintaining a clear boundary between his professional and personal life. His wife, Chy, actively supports his endeavors while building her own brand in the beauty and lifestyle industry. Unku SP’s contributions to comedy and content creation have not gone unnoticed. He has received several awards, including: Best Online Comedian at the 2021 Nigerian Entertainment Awards. Igbo Cultural Ambassador Award in 2022, presented by the Anambra State Government. Social Media Content Creator of the Year at the 2023 African Social Media Awards. In March 2024, Ogechi Njaka, a popular figure active on Facebook and YouTube, filed a N1 billion defamation lawsuit against Obinwanne Valentine Nonso (also known as Unku SP) over videos and blog posts published across his social media channels. In 2024 and 2025, Unku SP (real name Obinwanne Valentine Nonso), also known as Onye Obodo, became embroiled in serious controversy following several videos posted on his Instagram account in which he expressed openly anti-gay views.
