Biography

EARLY LIFE

Nkechi Okoro Carroll was born on January 24, 1977, in New York, United States. She is the youngest of four children to Nigerian parents who came to the US for college. She lived in many places while growing up, including Nigeria, Côte d'Ivoire, the United States, and the United Kingdom, where she attended boarding school in Oxford, England. She became fluent in three languages by age 14. Carroll attended the University of Pennsylvania, where she received a BA in economics and French in 1998. She later received a master's degree in international economics from New York University in 2002.

CAREER

Carroll spent the first 14 years of her professional career in finance and economics, including positions as a research assistant and economist at the Federal Reserve. In 2004, she moved to Los Angeles to pursue her dream of writing in Hollywood. Her first writing job was on The Finder, followed by Bones, Rosewood, and The Resident, where she worked as a co-executive producer. In 2018, she joined All American as a co-producer and later took over as executive producer. She is also the creator and executive producer of its spinoff All American: Homecoming and NBC's Found. In 2014, Carroll co-launched Black Women Who Brunch, a group for black female writers in the film industry. In 2021, she signed a deal with Warner Bros. Television Studios and launched her production company, Rock My Soul Productions.

PERSONAL LIFE

Carroll is married to Jonathan A. Carroll, a high school teacher. They met briefly at the University of Pennsylvania and started dating later, marrying in 2003. They have two sons and currently live in Los Angeles. Carroll is a Christian and speaks multiple languages. She was in the World Trade Center Annex when the planes hit the towers on September 11, 2001.
