Biography
EARLY LIFE
Nkechi First studied linguistics for her first degree and started her first hairdressing salon at the age of 17. She grew up experiencing poverty.
CAREER
After graduating, Nkechi began producing and presenting TV programs, gaining exposure to various media aspects like production, photo and video editing, photography, camera, and sound, leading her to become a YouTube partner. She pursued postgraduate studies in international marketing at the University of West of Scotland. Nkechi owns Princess Star Hair World, a weave and hair extensions bar in Glasgow, and has published a hair magazine app called Princess Star Hair Magazine. She was elected as the Women officer for the Maryhill and Springburn branch of the Scottish National Party (SNP), making her the first black person and foreigner to hold that post nationwide in the party. She is a certified motivational speaker and wellness coach, currently writing two books: 'Against All Odds, a true story of my life' and 'My journey to Weight Loss'. She hosts a weekly talk show, 'Against all odds with Nkechi First', on Facebook live. She serves as Chairperson on the board of trustees for three charities: Unity for Integration Project (UFIP), Enkays Production, and Power2Her, and also founded Fat Burn Divas, a health and fitness group for women. Nkechi organizes several events, including Scotland’s Women Conference, the annual Red Carpet Dinner and Community Giants Awards, the Cultural Summer Festival, and the Blue Jean and Sunglasses Banquet. She also worked on the 2021 film What Is Mine, where she served as the lead actress (Tracy), writer, and producer.
PERSONAL LIFE
Nkechi First lives in the United Kingdom and is a mother. In 2013, she lost everything in a house fire. She has undergone a significant weight loss journey, losing 46 kilograms, which inspired her to establish the 'Fat Burn Divas' women's health and fitness group. She also founded 'Power2Her' to empower women, particularly single mothers, assisting them with skills, confidence, and financial support for small businesses. Nkechi is deeply community-led, advocating for women, children, and social justice. Her main inspirations are overcoming poverty and being a positive role model for her children.
