EARLY LIFE
Neil Coppen lives between the cities of Durban and Johannesburg, South Africa.
CAREER
He works as a writer, director, and designer, and has collaborated with various artists. He began his acting career performing in productions such as Twelfth Night and Oedipus Rex. He is also a freelance journalist for various South African publications. His acclaimed works include Tin Bucket Drum, Tree Boy, Abnormal Loads, Izipopolo, and NewFoundLand. His all-female cast adaptation of George Orwell’s Animal Farm toured the country for over five years. He served as dramaturge for Canada’s leading contemporary Indigenous dance company and is currently in pre-production for a South African reimagining of Hamlet for the Fugard Theatre in Cape Town.
