EARLY LIFE
Naomy Grand’Pierre was born on April 16, 1997, in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, and raised in Atlanta, Georgia. She was introduced to swimming after her mother witnessed her struggling in the water at a pool party when she was young, and sadly, three of her cousins had drowned because they didn’t know how to swim. She is a graduate of Whitefield Academy (Georgia) and the University of Chicago (Class of 2019).
CAREER
Naomy Grand’Pierre is a Haitian-American swimmer who competed in the women's 50-meter freestyle event at the 2016 Summer Olympics, where she ranked 56th. She is the first woman from Haiti to compete as a swimmer in the Olympics. During her college years, she collaborated with the USA Swimming Diversity and Inclusion Committee. She is currently helping the Haitian National Swim Team, in collaboration with the FHSA (Haitian Swimming Federation), structure their program to give Haitians in Haiti and the Diaspora more access to the sport. Grand’Pierre uses her platform to inspire many young Black swimmers and athletes and has initiated the #RoadtoTokyo project. She also runs a YouTube channel and Vlog called The Undercurrent. She also plays the character Marie in the Nigerian-Haitian movie Unexpected Love.
