Monica Ogah

EARLY LIFE

Monica Ene Ogah was born on August 7, 1994, in Makurdi, Benue State, Nigeria. She is the youngest of six children in a devout Christian family. Her mother, a choir mistress, was her primary musical influence. Despite her father's early disapproval and his desire for her to become a nurse, Monica pursued music. She attended Bammco Nursery and Primary School and Methodist Girls' High School in Otukpo, Benue State, where she was active in school talent shows and music clubs.

CAREER

Monica's professional career began on December 18, 2011, when she was declared the winner of Season 4 of MTN Project Fame West Africa. She was the second woman to win the competition. This victory earned her a recording deal with Ultima Studios. In 2013, she released her debut studio album, 'Sometime in August', which featured collaborations with Wizboyy and Chidinma and was produced by TY Mix and other top producers. In 2014, she released the Igbo-language hit 'Obim Bu Nke Gi'. In 2021, she released her EP titled 'Different', continuing her focus on conscious and inspirational music.

PERSONAL LIFE

Monica Ogah maintains a private lifestyle, describing herself as an 'indoor person' who enjoys video games and spending time with a close circle of friends. She gained media attention in 2017 after sharing that her father had cautioned her against marrying an Igbo man, a post that sparked national dialogue on ethnic prejudice in Nigeria. She is also known for being highly self-critical of her music, famously stating in 2016 that she does not listen to her own songs after their release.
