EARLY LIFE
Maureen Koech was born on May 21, 1989, in Nairobi, Kenya. She was raised in Nairobi as the middle child and only daughter in a family of three siblings. She attended Nakuru High School from 2004 to 2007, where she was involved in the drama club. After high school, she enrolled at Strathmore University in 2009, pursuing a degree in Business Information and Technology (BBIT) until 2013, and joined the Strathmore University Drama Society.
CAREER
Maureen Koech is a Kenyan actress and musician. Her professional television debut was in 2010 as 'Shiks' in the campus drama Changing Times. In 2012, she gained a breakthrough role as Patricia in the KTN series Lies That Bind. Alongside acting, Koech also pursues music under the stage name Mokko, having recorded her first demo after high school and releasing urban pop singles. She has also directed and written for the mini-series The Extremities.
PERSONAL LIFE
Maureen Koech was raised in Nairobi with an elder brother and a younger brother who passed away in 2017. Her upbringing was supportive but challenging, and she experienced bullying in primary school due to her appearance, which contributed to early timidity. She has a strong sense of national and continental African identity.
