Biography

EARLY LIFE

Mandisa was born in Roma, Lesotho and moved to England when she was ten years old. She was educated in England where she always involved herself in the performing arts. Her first major role was in a school production of West Side Story. She studied drama at the University of Leicester. She returned to South Africa where she obtained her Performers Diploma in Speech and Drama from the University of Cape Town.

CAREER

Her first professional production was in the Fred Abrahamse production Darkie. She also performed in the film The Kiss of Milk by Akin Omotoso. David Kramer cast her in his acclaimed musical Kat and the Kings, which toured England for a year. The cast was awarded the Laurence Olivier Award for Best Cast in a Musical (1999). This exposure earned her a part in The Lion King in London. She also performed in a show called Diamonds and Dust. She is best known for her leading role as Michelle, the best friend of the title character, in the television sitcom Nomzamo, from 2006-2008. She also appeared in Heartlines - Season 1 (Vera) and Jozi-H - Season 1 (Jackie Mzimba).
