Maggie Osuome knew from her primary school days that she was destined to be a star. Teachers frequently called on her to recite poems, sing songs, or participate in dance troupes, including the vibrant Atilogwu Dance Troupe. This passion deepened in her first year of junior secondary school when she joined the drama group and landed the lead role as a warrior in a dance drama competition. The rehearsals, songs, dance routines, and the thrill of performing on stage convinced her that this was her lifelong path. She remained heavily involved in performing arts throughout her secondary school years, honing her skills in a supportive environment shaped by strong family values. Her mother emphasized diligence with the timeless advice, “whatever is worth doing at all is worth doing well,” expecting her best effort in everything from chores to assignments. Initially drawn to Theatre Arts, she followed her father’s advice and studied Mass Communication instead, graduating with a solid foundation as a trained broadcast journalist. She anchored programs on her campus radio station and interned every summer at radio or television stations, earning excellent reviews that blended practical experience with her theoretical knowledge. This early blend of performance passion and journalistic training laid the groundwork for her versatile career.

CAREER

Maggie Osuome’s professional acting career officially began in April 2018, shortly after completing her National Youth Service Corps (NYSC). Despite her qualifications as a broadcast journalist, she faced challenges securing traditional media jobs and decided to pursue her first love—theatre and performance—by attending auditions. Her debut project was a role in an unreleased web series, quickly followed by appearances in a TV series, a stage play, and several commercials within her first year. One of her standout early experiences was playing Sophie Sheridan in the traveling musical Mamma Mia! (inspired by ABBA’s songs), which toured over 60 countries. The role allowed her to combine singing, acting, dancing, breath control, projection, and direct audience interaction, making her feel “alive, free, confident, and impactful.” She credits director Najite Dede for the opportunity and guidance. She has also built a reputation as a skilled voiceover artist, lending her voice to numerous TV and radio commercials. In the past, she edited non-fiction articles, short stories, and novels, though she has since focused primarily on acting and voice work. Her career gained significant momentum with high-profile roles, including Tsema in the epic Africa Magic series Riona—a physically demanding part that tested her endurance—and Haalel in MTV Shuga Naija Season 5 (initially titled “Carry Go”). She auditioned via self-tape in August/September 2022, attended a closed reading, and described the experience as blissful, marked by mutual respect and strong leadership from producers Isioma Osaje and Ted Abudu. These roles presented her greatest challenges: the physical intensity of Tsema and the emotional vulnerability required for Haalel, both of which demanded deep preparation, research, and openness to personal growth. She has appeared in notable films such as A Sunday Affair (2023), The Smart Money Woman (2020), and Freedom Come (2021). As an alumna of the EbonyLife Creative Academy’s Acting for Screen program, she continues to refine her craft while prioritizing stories that are relevant, beneficial to audiences, and have lasting impact across generations. Her work spans stage, screen, and voice, reflecting a commitment to meaningful storytelling that represents diverse walks of life.
