Biography
EARLY LIFE
Lilian Gabriel Ekenta was born into a Nollywood family. Her father, Mike Ekenta, is a well-known Director of Photography (DOP) in the Nigerian film industry. Her mother, Charity Onyiyechi Ekenta (known in the industry as “African Mother’s Concept”), was a respected makeup artist and costumier who worked behind the cameras and also acted in earlier projects (including roles linked to Things Fall Apart and King Jaja of Opobo). Her mother passed away in 2018. She hails from Akwete, Ndoki in Ukwa East LGA of Abia State and is fluent in Igbo. She began appearing on screen at a very young age — by her own account, from as early as three months old in baby roles — and continued acting as she grew up. Acting helped support her education, including school fees.
CAREER
Lilian started as a prominent child actress in the early 2000s Nollywood scene. She was noted for playing the young version of Liz Benson’s character in Izaga. Other early credits include Crazy Millionaire (2003), Sting of Pain, The Village Teacher, Red Python, Forbidden Book, Black Angel, Payback, Sin of the Father, Anointed, Okosisi, Not My Wealth, Odeshi, and many others. By 2012 she stated she had appeared in around 174 films. In 2012, at age 19 (after completing secondary school two years earlier), she was appointed Female Igbo Ambassador and “Ada Igbo” of the Igbo Film Forum in recognition of her cultural representation and fluency in the language. She has since returned to the industry as a young adult actress. She is also active as a singer and songwriter.
PERSONAL LIFE
Lilian keeps much of her adult personal life private. She has been celebrated on social media for her birthday. She transitioned from child actress to young adult performer and continues to maintain a presence in entertainment.
Lilian comes from a creative family deeply embedded in Nollywood production. She has spoken about the positive role acting played in supporting her education and family. She remains connected to her Abia/Igbo roots and continues to be recognized by fans of classic child-star Nollywood films.
