Biography
EARLY LIFE
Raymond Oladipupo Ladebo, also known as Ladi Ladebo, was born on May 7, 1942, in Ijebu-Ode, Nigeria. He pursued higher education in the USA, earning a B.S. in Business Administration from Bowling Green State University in 1968 and an MBA in Marketing from New York University Graduate School of Business in 1969.
CAREER
Ladi Ladebo began his career in advertising, working as a media analyst and account executive for Ogilvy and Mather from 1969 to 1972. He then transitioned into the film industry, working as a production assistant and line producer for American television programs. He collaborated with African-American actor Ossie Davis, co-writing the screenplay and producing the 1976 American film 'Countdown at Kusini'. He directed films such as 'Bisi, Daughter of the River' (1977) and 'Silent Sufferer', a collaboration with UNESCO and UNPFA. His 1992 production, 'Vendor', garnered four awards, including Best Director and Best Feature Film, at the inaugural Nigerian Film Festival. His last directorial effort, 'Heritage', was released in 2003 and premiered in the UK in 2004. He was a pioneer of Nigerian cinema during the celluloid era and focused on making advocacy films after 1977.
PERSONAL LIFE
Ladi Ladebo was married to Irene, and they had three daughters and two grandchildren. He passed away on April 16, 2021, in London, England, UK, at the age of 78.
