EARLY LIFE
Chief Dhikrulaah Adekola Olootu was born on November 16, 1943, in Ibadan, Oyo State, Nigeria, into a traditional Muslim family in the historic Oje area. His father, Alhaji Salau Olootu, was a respected textile trader, and his mother, Alhaja Ramota Olootu, was a devoted homemaker and community figure. He grew up deeply rooted in Yoruba cultural traditions, absorbing wisdom and the art of storytelling from community elders.
CAREER
Kola Olootu's broadcasting career began in the early 1970s at the Western Nigeria Broadcasting Service (WNBS) in Ibadan. In 1985, he officially started his professional broadcasting career as a freelancer at the Broadcasting Corporation of Oyo State (BCOS). In the 1980s, he joined the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) Ibadan, where he created and anchored the live call-in programme Agbala Eto. He hosted the popular programme Oselenkejo at Fresh FM and later at Lagelu FM 96.7, where he continues to host it along with Ale Ere be. Beyond broadcasting, he has made significant contributions to the Yoruba film industry as a writer, producer, and occasional actor. His production company, Kola Olootu Productions, has produced notable films such as Ago kan oru (2003), Rubicon (2022), and Orí Rebirth (2025). He has successfully adapted to digital media, establishing strong presences on Instagram (@kolaolootulive) and TikTok (@kolaolootulive) with a large following.
PERSONAL LIFE
Kola Olootu is married to Alhaja Nike Yahaya, a prominent socialite in Ibadan. They have multiple children, including twins. He is described as humble, disciplined, and deeply religious, with his Islamic faith informing his worldview. He emphasizes prudent financial management, cultural preservation, community responsibility, family values, and respect for tradition. On November 16, 2020, on his 77th birthday, he was installed as the Mogaji of Ile Adesun in Yemetu, Ibadan, by the Olubadan of Ibadan, Oba Saliu Adetunji Aje Oguguniso I.
