EARLY LIFE

Joseph Onaolapo had challenging experiences with money in his childhood, including a period where he stole from his mother. To curb this behavior, his mother began entrusting him with her money, making him responsible for saving it. In secondary school, he demonstrated entrepreneurial skills by reselling pork and later became a UTME tutorial teacher.

CAREER

Jay On-Air studied Mass Communication with aspirations of working in radio in Lagos. He experienced working unpaid at radio stations in both Lagos and Benin City, facing months of unpaid wages. Around late 2019 to early 2020, he ventured into business by starting a thrift store, which became a significant source of income during the COVID-19 lockdown. In 2020, during lockdown, he started creating lipsync videos on TikTok for personal enjoyment, which evolved into original skit content focusing on everyday humor. His content quickly gained traction, and by 2021 and 2022, he began securing brand deals with companies like Coldstone, Leadway, and Fan Ice. Currently, he is a Master of Ceremonies (MC), a radio host, and a social media content creator, with aspirations to pursue acting in Nollywood and Hollywood.

PERSONAL LIFE

During the COVID-19 lockdown, Jay On-Air experienced a period of depression and sadness after quitting his job and seeing his thrift store business halted. He identifies as a 'lover boy' but is currently single. He is comfortable with his sexuality despite facing stereotypes due to portraying female characters in his skits, emphasizing his role as an actor who can embody diverse roles. He attributes his ability to quickly recreate real-life situations in his content to his journalism background, which instilled in him the importance of currency and quick reporting. He preaches consistency and hard work as keys to success and advocates for setting boundaries and hiring assistants to maintain balance and health.
