Biography
EARLY LIFE
Born John Adedayo Bamidele Adegboyega on 17 March 1992 in the Camberwell district of London and grew up in Peckham. His parents, Abigail (a carer) and Samson Adegboyega (a Pentecostal minister), are both of Yoruba descent. He has two older sisters. Attended Westminster City School, South Thames College for National Diploma in Performing Arts, and enrolled at University of Greenwich for BA in film studies but dropped out. Trained with Identity School of Acting.
CAREER
First gained recognition for role as teenage gang leader Moses in Attack the Block (2011). International breakthrough as Finn in Star Wars: The Force Awakens (2015) and sequel trilogy. Formed production company UpperRoom Entertainment. Other notable roles in Pacific Rim Uprising (2018, producer), Small Axe: Red, White and Blue (2020), The Woman King (2022), They Cloned Tyrone (2023).
PERSONAL LIFE
Activism includes speech at Black Lives Matter rally in Hyde Park, London in 2020 supporting George Floyd and others. Criticised Disney in 2020 interview for marketing and sidelining his Star Wars character.
