EARLY LIFE
Henry Olisaemeka Orakwe, known as Groovy, was born in 1995 to Mr. and Mrs. Orakwe. His native name, Olisaemeka, means 'God has done well.' He was born and raised in Lagos State, Nigeria, and hails from Anambra State. He is the first of four children, with a younger brother and twin younger sisters. He was raised in the Christian faith. Groovy attended a top private nursery and primary school in Lagos and completed his secondary education at St. Finbarr’s College in Yaba, Lagos, achieving high marks in his West African School Certificate Examination. He is an alumnus of the University of Lagos.
CAREER
Groovy discovered his vocal skills in high school, often performing covers of popular songs. At university, he seriously pursued singing and songwriting, participating in music competitions in Lagos. He was a prominent figure in the University of Lagos music community, performing at campus events and releasing singles. His first official single, 'Groovy Zone,' was released on November 7th, 2020, gaining local recognition. On October 27th, 2021, he released a five-track project titled 'The Groovy Hours EP,' which received positive reviews. In 2022, Groovy auditioned for and became a housemate in the seventh season of Big Brother Naija (Level Up Season). He is also an actor, having appeared in 'The Godmother' as Oscar Okafor. Beyond entertainment, he is an entrepreneur and fashionist.
