EARLY LIFE

He was born and raised in Nigeria and later lived in the United States, where he worked in the corporate world as a trained management consultant.

CAREER

Gogo Clay is a self-taught filmmaker based between the USA and Nigeria. He transitioned from management consulting to full-time filmmaking and creative work. He is best known for writing, directing, and producing the award-nominated short film Employee of the Month (2022), which explores police brutality during the 2020 #EndSARS protests in Nigeria, government repression, and the fragility of human life. The film has screened at international festivals including Cleveland International Film Festival and Nollywood Week. He also creates travel and lifestyle content on YouTube and Instagram, sharing lessons from his global journeys. He believes strongly in “education through entertainment” and uses his films to highlight social issues while telling compelling human stories.

PERSONAL LIFE

In 2017, after a personal setback, Gogo Clay quit his corporate job and embarked on a solo backpacking journey across three continents and over 30 countries. He documented his adventures, facing challenges such as climbing an active volcano, getting lost, surviving dangerous situations in favelas, and dealing with illness and extreme weather. These experiences shaped his worldview and inspired his creative work. He describes himself as a minimalist with the mantra “Love people, use things.” He is multilingual and uses his language skills in his storytelling.

Gogo Clay continues to work on film projects that blend commercial appeal with meaningful themes. He is involved in both production and creative consulting.
