Genny Uzoma

EARLY LIFE

Genny Uzoma was born and raised in Enugu, Enugu State, Nigeria. She hails from Imo State and is of Igbo ethnicity. From a young age, she had a deep passion for the arts, literature, and performance. While in secondary school, she participated in plays such as The Incorruptible Judge. She joined the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) Enugu chapter as a teenager and made her acting debut around 2004/2005 with a small “waka pass” role in a film featuring veterans like Patience Ozokwor, Ini Edo, and Bob Manuel Udokwu. Her parents initially opposed her acting ambitions, fearing it would lead to a wayward lifestyle, so she had to borrow money to register as an actress. She obtained a degree in political science from Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT).

CAREER

Genny Uzoma is a talented Nollywood actress and producer with a career spanning over 15 years. She temporarily left acting after her early start to work in the telecoms industry as a call center agent and customer care consultant. Although she was successful and even won “Best Customer Service Official of the Month” multiple times, she felt unfulfilled and miserable. She resigned, saved some money, and returned to acting full-time. Her big break came when she landed a role in the popular series Husbands of Lagos, which brought her wide recognition. She has since featured in numerous movies and series, including, The Shopgirl, Birthday Bash, The Vendor, Our Society, Baby Shower, Best of the Game, Classical Fraud, Royal Doom, Eagles Bride, Reconciliation, The Gateman, Caught in Between, Love in the Wrong Places, The Washerman, Once Upon an Adventure, The Anomalous. She runs her own production outfit, Zinna Studios, and has executive produced several films. In 2015, she won the Revelation of the Year award at the Best of Nollywood (BON) Awards. She is admired for her professionalism, screen presence, and dedication to quality storytelling.

PERSONAL LIFE

Genny Uzoma was previously in a serious relationship and was close to marriage before she chose to fully pursue acting. She left her fiancé and a stable corporate job to return to the entertainment industry. She is known to be very private about her current romantic life and family matters. She has spoken openly about the sacrifices she made for her career and how her mother eventually became one of her strongest supporters. Uzoma has stated that her hobbies and passion revolve around arts and literature.
