EARLY LIFE
Funmbi Ogunbanwo was born and raised in Lagos, Nigeria. She qualified as a Barrister and Solicitor at the age of 20 but later transitioned from law to the creative industry, driven by her passion for storytelling and connecting with people through film and television. Funmbi's career began as a young model for TV commercials and campaigns. She holds a law degree.
CAREER
Funmbi worked as a Barrister & Solicitor before pursuing her true love for film and TV. She is the co-founder and CEO of Fatherland, a leading African production company. She has produced several notable projects, including: My Father’s Shadow (Producer) — A groundbreaking film that made history as the first Nigerian film selected for the official competition at the Cannes Film Festival. It also won multiple major awards at the 12th AMVCA, including Best Movie and Best Director. Lizard (Producer) — The first Nigerian short film to win a Sundance Award. Banana Island Ghost (Associate Producer). She is an accredited member of the Producers Guild of America (PGA) and a Sundance award-winning producer. Her work spans feature films, international co-productions, and brand campaigns for global companies. She is recognized as a trailblazer, notably becoming the first Nigerian woman and first Nigerian producer to have a film in Cannes’ official selection.
