EARLY LIFE
Esse Akwawa grew up in a home where stories were currency, with a childhood obsession for watching news with her dad. This sparked her love for storytelling, realizing it was a tool for connection, healing, and change.
CAREER
Before founding Webek Studios, Esse Akwawa had stints in banking, events management, and TV. She later led Accelerate Studios, which she describes as her training ground for building at scale, learning to align creativity with business and develop sustainable content ecosystems. She then founded Webek Studios, which officially launched in March 2025, with a mission to place African stories at the center with global ambition. Webek Studios has premiered internationally, and her short film 'The Screen Test' won Best Short Film at Nollywood Week Paris. She has also brought stories to life across platforms like Netflix and Prime Video.
