Ese Ariremu was born in Lagos and raised in Enugu.
CAREER
Ese Ariremu is a Nigerian filmmaker, screenwriter, and director. She has directed short films and features including Widow’s Mite (2022), Prey (2022), and Idia (2025). Her storytelling often weaves together African cultural motifs, faith, mental health, and folklore. With Idia, she co-directed a cultural thriller steeped in Edo mythology and folklore. Ese describes her relationship to film as intuitive: “I understand the language of film so well."
