Biography

EARLY LIFE

Emmanuel Chukwuemeka Ejekiru, widely known by his stage names Oga Sabinus, Mr Funny, and Mumu Man, was born on January 30, 1995, in Rivers State, Nigeria, into the family of Mr. Dennis Ejekwu. He hails from the Ikwerre tribe, one of the major ethnic groups in Rivers State. He was raised alongside his two siblings, Josephine Adaeze and Emmanuella Ejekwu, in a Christian household. From a young age, Sabinus exhibited a natural flair for humor, often entertaining friends and family with jokes and witty remarks. His unique ability to observe and exaggerate everyday situations would later become the cornerstone of his comedic career. Sabinus pursued his higher education at the University of Port Harcourt, where he studied Linguistics and Communication Studies. It was during his university years that he began exploring his passion for comedy more seriously. The environment provided a stage for him to express himself creatively, eventually leading him to upload comedy skits online.

CAREER

Sabinus began his professional comedy career in 2015, creating and uploading short skits on social media platforms while still in Port Harcourt. His content revolved around relatable Nigerian experiences, often portrayed with exaggerated reactions and facial expressions that quickly became his trademark. In 2019, he moved to Lagos, Nigeria’s entertainment hub, to focus entirely on online content creation. The move marked a turning point in his career. His skits, filled with sarcasm, clumsiness, and hilarious logic, went viral, gaining him a massive following across Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube. Oga Sabinus is known for his blue long-sleeved shirt and black trousers — a signature look for his iconic character. His expressions, timing, and ability to turn awkward situations into comic gold set him apart in the crowded Nigerian comedy scene. Beyond online skits, he is also a Master of Ceremony (MC), performing at live events and stand-up shows. He has become one of Nigeria’s most sought-after comedic personalities. His content consistently trends online, and his catchphrases have become part of popular Nigerian lingo. He uses his platforms not only for comedy but also for brand promotions. Sabinus is a brand ambassador for several companies. Notably, he signed a deal with Moniepoint Nigeria, a prominent fintech brand. He frequently promotes products and services through skits and dedicated influencer posts, making him a valuable marketing asset for many businesses. His success is a testament to the power of digital media and the opportunities it offers for self-made entertainers. His comedy persona is often labeled the "Mumu Man" — a naive, overly confident character who always finds himself in trouble. His famous catchphrases include “You’re a mumu man!” and “Sabinus don enter!” Despite the comedic chaos he portrays, Sabinus is known to be very disciplined and strategic about his business decisions. Oga Sabinus has carved a niche for himself in the Nigerian entertainment industry through hard work, creativity, and a deep understanding of his audience. From humble beginnings in Port Harcourt to nationwide fame, he represents the modern face of digital comedy in Africa. With continued growth and brand collaborations, the sky is only the starting point for this trailblazing content creator.

PERSONAL LIFE

Sabinus is currently in a relationship with Mercy Inyama, an internet personality known by her handle @ciara_chapman on Instagram. Though they are not married, the couple occasionally shares moments from their relationship on social media. On May 5, 2023, Sabinus celebrated Mercy’s birthday with a heartfelt post, affirming their bond. He is 5 feet 6 inches (168 cm) tall and weighs approximately 176 lbs (80 kg). He is known for his charming and down-to-earth demeanor, both online and in real life.
