EARLY LIFE
Ejike Benedict Obiano, known professionally as Ejyk Nwamba or Ogene master, was born in Enugu, a state in the southeastern region of Nigeria. He picked an interest in music at a young age, passionate about cultural instruments and learning by watching people play. He studied Mass communication at Enugu State University.
CAREER
Nwamba started his career in the church as a performer in the early 2000s, performing at churches, weddings, and cultural meetings. He began publishing his music on streaming platforms in the late 2010s. His music is a blend of Ogene music, Igbo highlife, and mainstream Nigerian music, infused with traditional tunes and chants. He recreates Afrobeats in a cultural way and has collaborated with artists like Flavour, Zoro, and Kola Boy. His breakthrough came with “Aja Wele Wele” in 2019, followed by his debut extended play of the same title in 2020. Nwamba is the founder and leader of Ogene Ubo Mma Group. He has performed across Nigeria and made his United Arab Emirates debut in 2022. He is regarded as the best Ogene musician in Igboland and sings in Igbo and English, using traditional Igbo instruments like the Slit drum, ogene, ichaka, ekwe, and Ọjà (flute). His lyrics focus on promoting his culture, inheritance, and life journey.
