EARLY LIFE
Born and raised in Kenya, Dorothy Ghettuba studied communications and political science at Andrews University in Michigan, United States. After graduation, she lived in Canada for several years, working with a venture capital fund. She returned to Kenya shortly after her thirtieth birthday. Her original passion was acting, but she turned to the production side of filmmaking when she was not selected for roles.
CAREER
Dorothy Ghettuba quit her job at a venture capital firm in Canada to pursue filmmaking. She joined a local TV show as a producer before co-founding Spielworks Media in 2009, an African production company based in Nairobi. She is also a co-founder of Keja TV, a social media channel. Ghettuba-Pala has spearheaded the creation and production of 18 television shows, 20 web shows, and over 40 movies, including notable projects like Penzi la Sumu, Lies that Bind, Saints, and Higher Learning. In March 2019, she landed a job at Netflix as manager international originals (now Director, Original Series for Africa), and in May 2019, she was appointed by the Kenyan government as chairperson of the Kenya Film Commission Board.
PERSONAL LIFE
Dorothy Ghettuba Pala is married to Kenyan journalist Oyunga Pala. Beyond her professional accolades, Dorothy's journey is marked by resilience and transformation. After years of pursuing external success, she faced burnout and rediscovered her purpose by prioritizing spiritual, mental, and emotional well-being. She is also an author, having written several books.
