Biography

Dayo Akinpelu, professionally known as Alabi Yellow, was a veteran Nigerian actor, playwright, and author who made an unforgettable impact on the Yoruba film industry. Over a career spanning more than four decades, he became one of the most recognizable faces in classical Nollywood. He passed away on December 22, 2019, at the age of 62 due to stroke complications. He initially began acting during his primary school days, eventually moving into professional stage drama before transitioning into major Yoruba cinema. He was known for his distinct screen presence, humor, and witty dialogue. His last major film appearance was portraying the character "Ajentina" in Kunle Afolayan's critically acclaimed 2019 movie, Mokalik. He also starred in numerous era-defining films such as the classic comedy Eje Afin. Beyond the screen, Akinpelu was a deep thinker and teacher. He authored a popular Yoruba literature textbook titled A Ba Oko Ku, which was approved for the junior secondary school curriculum in Nigeria.
