EARLY LIFE
Courage Obayuwana's childhood memories of cinema began with his parents, watching Hollywood titles from his father and Nollywood productions from his mother. This exposure, combined with access to behind-the-scenes content on MBC 2 at age 13, sparked his interest in filmmaking. While studying Computer Science at the University of Benin, he joined the Christian Fellowship International's media unit, further developing his passion for video shooting. In 2018, he directed his debut short film, 'Fejiro', which solidified his decision to become a filmmaker.
CAREER
Courage Obayuwana is a rising Nigerian filmmaker known for his emotionally charged storytelling and focus on complex social themes. His debut feature film, 'Kill Boro' (2024), addresses difficult issues such as family trauma and cycles of violence, set against the backdrop of Nigeria’s Delta region. Beyond directing, he is also skilled in colour grading, editing, and cinematography. 'Kill Boro' is part of the First Feature Projects by Steve Gukas and Dotun Olakunri, an initiative that provides training and mentorship to emerging Nollywood filmmakers.
PERSONAL LIFE
Courage Obayuwana expresses his desire to continue telling beautiful stories as a storyteller and looks forward to collaborating with like-minded producers who prioritize storytelling.
