Chinenye Uyanna

EARLY LIFE

Chinenye Uyanna is an indigene of Anambra State and was raised/bred in Lagos. From childhood she dreamed of becoming an actor; during family trips to the village she would declare acting as her future career while cousins chose conventional professions. She began performing in the drama unit of her youth group at St. Bridget’s Catholic Church in Lagos from around age 16. She studied Economics and Political Science at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN). She was initially hesitant to tell her father she wanted to pursue Theatre Arts and instead followed a more conventional academic path. After completing her studies and National Youth Service, she entered the industry.

CAREER

She began professional acting in 2012 during her National Youth Service. Her first movie was Shakara Babe. Early guidance came from Uche Ike (whom she first approached around 2004/2005; he advised her to finish school first and later welcomed her into Nollywood). She has also worked with directors/producers such as Paul Igwe. She has over 50 film credits and has evolved from acting into producing. Early productions include her first Igbo indigenous movie Akwa Ndu. Later producer credits include Mended Hearts, Five, Jackie’s Baby Bump, To Have and to Hold, and others. Acting credits span titles such as Celebrity Marriage, Gamble of Love, College Girls, Asunder, Breaking Free, Walk With Me, The Fruit Girl, Dark Figures, Deeper Regret, My Wife, My Life, The Devil and the Red Sea, Still The One I Love, Fit Fam, Twist of Life, Commitment Shy, Flipped, Just a Fling, and more. She emphasizes emotional truth in performances, discipline, continuous learning, and growth through challenging roles. She has noted that acting is financially rewarding over time as one grows in the craft, and she balances on-set demands (village shoots, long hours, night shoots) with personal resilience.

PERSONAL LIFE

Uyanna keeps much of her private life discreet. She has stated she is in a supportive relationship and that marriage will not make her quit acting, describing it as a calling and childhood dream. She prefers not to rush into marriage, wants to build a stable home, and notes there is no pressure from her parents, who understand and support her. She is spiritual, values family time, close friends, quiet moments, worship music, and good food (a self-described foodie who enjoys Afang soup). She has spoken about learning hard lessons from betrayal by people she trusted in the industry and the importance of separating business from friendship.

Uyanna describes herself as pretty, goal-oriented, and playful. She stays relatively scandal-free by focusing on her values, craft, and private personal life. She is CEO of One-Take Studio Limited and serves as a brand ambassador. She continues to take on diverse roles (drama, romance, social-issue stories) and expand in production.
