Biography
EARLY LIFE
Chiege Alisigwe-Ebbe was born into a devout Christian family in Orlu, Imo State, Nigeria. She grew up in a disciplined and supportive household where education and hard work were highly valued. Chiege displayed a strong aptitude for sports during her early years and was an athletic champion for several years at school. She dreamed of becoming a professional athlete and even qualified to represent Enugu State at a National Sports Festival. Unfortunately, due to the politics surrounding state of origin, she was denied the opportunity, bringing her athletic aspirations to an abrupt end.
CAREER
Chiege’s journey into Nollywood began serendipitously after a conversation with a family friend who was already an established figure in the industry. Encouraged by their guidance, she attended an audition at the Hotel Presidential in Enugu, marking the start of her acting career. She gave acting a serious thought after her studies at the Institute of Management and Technology (IMT) Enugu, where she studied Fine and Applied Arts. Her first role was as Agu’s wife in 'Igbodo' in 1998, followed by a lead role in the epic movie 'Oganigwe'. Chiege quickly gained prominence, featuring in over 60 Nollywood movies. Her poise, beauty, and talent made her a fan favorite, and she became one of the leading actresses in the Nigerian film industry during the late 1990s and early 2000s, and was still active in 2008.
PERSONAL LIFE
Chiege was previously married to Tony Ebbe, a senior police officer. The marriage was consummated in 2002 but lasted for only three months due to incompatibility. She conceived her daughter, Munachimsoaga, before the separation and has raised her by herself since. Chiege believes in marriage and is open to remarrying if the right person and time come. She loves to spend time with her daughter and listen to music, and her philosophy is to not regret anything and to always move on, seeing everything as an experience.
